Stamped Concrete in Wausau, WI

The look of natural stone, brick, or slate — at a fraction of the cost

Stamped concrete gives you the appearance of premium materials like flagstone, cobblestone, brick, or wood plank without the higher material and labor costs. It's a single poured slab, which means no gaps for weeds to grow through and no individual pavers to shift during Wisconsin's freeze-thaw cycles.

The process works by pressing textured mats into freshly poured concrete while it's still workable. We apply integral color to the mix and a contrasting release agent to the surface, creating realistic depth and variation. After curing, a clear sealer locks in the color and adds a slight sheen.

Stamped concrete works well for patios, pool decks, walkways, and entryways. We've installed it on driveways too, though we'll be upfront about whether stamped is the right choice for your specific driveway situation — high-traffic driveways sometimes do better with a standard finish.

Stamped concrete is popular across the Wausau metro, particularly in Rib Mountain where ashlar slate patterns complement wooded lots, and in Weston where families want polished outdoor living spaces. We also install stamped patios and walkways in Rothschild, Schofield, Mosinee, and Marathon City.

Our Process

Color & Pattern Selection

We bring physical samples so you can see and feel the textures. We'll help you pick a pattern and color combination that works with your home's exterior.

Site Prep

Excavation, grading, and sub-base compaction. Same thorough prep as any concrete project — the slab underneath matters just as much as the surface.

Pour & Stamp

Concrete is poured with integral color, then stamped with texture mats while workable. Release agent creates the color contrast. Timing is critical — this step requires an experienced crew.

Detail & Seal

After curing, we wash off excess release agent, touch up any edges, and apply a clear sealer that protects the color and adds a subtle sheen.

Stamped Concrete FAQ

Yes, stamped concrete typically costs 30-50% more than standard broom-finished concrete due to the additional labor, color materials, and stamping process. However, it's still significantly less expensive than natural stone or brick pavers.

With proper installation and maintenance, stamped concrete lasts 25+ years. The sealer should be reapplied every 2-3 years to maintain color and protection. The concrete itself is just as durable as a standard pour.

The texture from the stamps provides more grip than smooth-finished concrete. For areas around pools or heavy foot traffic, we can add a non-slip additive to the sealer for extra traction.

Stamped concrete is regular concrete that's been colored and textured to look like stone, brick, slate, or wood. Texture mats are pressed into the surface during the pour to create realistic patterns and depth.
